Dr Nachamma Sockalingam

Dr. Nachamma is a senior academician with 18 years of experience in professional development, educational technology, and in building ecosystems that enhance learning and development across diverse educational institutions. She is the founding Program Director at the Office of Digital Education, Singapore University of Technology and Design, where she heads up the Learning Sciences Lab since 2016. In this role, she works with stakeholders on educational research and CET training on cyber-physical learning, blended/online learning, and face-to-face learning, for adult learners. Prior to this, she was an Assistant Director, at the Centre for Teaching Excellence at the Singapore Management University, taking care of Blended Learning, Emergency Preparedness for Teaching and Learning and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She has worked in various institutions in Singapore, Brazil, and has worked with universities in international settings across Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, India, US, UK, and Brazil. She holds a Ph. D. in Educational Psychology from Erasmus University, The Netherlands, and a Masters degree in Microbiology from the National University of Singapore, Singapore. Her research interest is technology-enabled teaching and learning methods. She has published in several peer-reviewed journals, and has presented in various local and international conferences. She has also an expert panel member in NMC-Horizon report and an serves as an Editorial Board Member of Asian Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and International Journal of Problem-based Learnnig. She has received several awards and accolades for her contributions to education.
She is the first in Singapore to be recognized as a Principal Fellow by Advance Higher Education in 2021. In 2019, she received the International Society for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fellowship. She is also a SkillsFuture Fellow- a national-level award recognizing lifelong learning and domain expertise.
